Many of the methods used by the Communists in Romania pre-1989 to create a politicised system of justice and law enforcement are still in existence in contemporary Romania. The control of judicial institutions and the subordination of the rule of law by the Romanian executive and its agencies continues to present a major challenge to attempts at reform. But so what? Why does the lack of, or sliding backwards from, key judicial and political reforms in Romania matter for others in Europe and beyond?

This session is meant to both present the case of judicial abuse in Romania and highlight how this is affecting Europe and is a negative example for others, beyond the EU.This session brings the authors of the book, scholars and members of the interested public, together to discuss one of the topic.
