Can EU push for Saudi Arms Ban end War in Yemen?
An RFI broadcast including an analysis by
Dr Mitchell Belfer
French President Emmanuel Macron has dismissed calls by several European countries to suspend arms sales to Saudi Arabia following the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2nd.
Austria argues that less arms sales to Riyadh could help end the war in Yemen, but as RFI's Christina Okello explains, it's not that simple.
Dr Mitchell Belfer, President of the Euro-Gulf Information Centre (EGIC) comments the issue
"It is not going to impact the war in Yemen at all, or at least, not positively [...] Imposing arms sanctions on only one side, the one that is actually supporting the United Nations position is very short-sighted".
The analysis by Dr Belfer is available from 2'22'' to 3'08''.
